My Lockbox is a security software enabling you to password protect any folder on your computer.
The protected folder (lockbox) is hidden from any user and application of your system, including Administrator and System itself. It is impossible to access the lockbox not only from the local computer, but also from the net.
The program is extremely easy to use. You can set the lockbox location and the password during the setup procedure. After the setup is done, lockbox will be hidden and locked until you enter the valid password.
My Lockbox Control Panel allows you easily change basic lockbox parameters: lockbox location, protection status, password.
In addition, skinned user interface lets you choose from different skins to select the most comfortable look and feel of the software.
The program is effective, easy to use and best of all - it’s free.

    One word of caution:

This would seem to imply that the folder is only hidden on THAT system (rootkit?). It seems likely that if you take the physical drive and attach it to another system you would be able to access the “hidden” files.

Unfortunately the website is unclear on this point, but one should carefully consider if this amounts to sufficient protection or if something like TrueCrypt (http://www.truecrypt.org/) would be a better option.

i had this little prog for about 3 months in my “free for all” laptop. i havent tried transferring the physical drive to another system. i would agree with you on that. i cant think of a way if ever your drive was transferred or maybe windows got screwed and you cant boot, that you can access the locked folder. backup is still the best way to make sure your files are safe. anyway, this prog just fulfills my need to keep my personal files “personal”.
