I've had some problems with this one, causing BSODS during winxp sp3 install. As soon as the install ends it wan't to START the avira service ...

That imidiatly terminates the system. I think it should not start during install but after first login. No sooner.

While it was working just fine when I tested it in VMware Machine 5.5 (WinXP SP2), I can't tell if it's 100% compatible with Service Pack 3.

This installs perfectly on WMware (+ Daemon Tools), but causes BSOD on real environment just as Mandros described. Really weird.

Gave me a BSOD when slipstreamed with XP SP3 in a real installation.

It stepped through all of the pre-install settings fine but then crashed after that, I think during the very end of the installation.

Does it perhaps try and access the internet at the end of the installation or something?

Tis a pity because this is my favourite free Anti-Virus software.

Yes, I think it tries to access the Internet. I have no idea why they don't deploy some "normal" installer that supports silent switches, etc. It's my favorite antivirus program too.
